In homage to Shel Silverstein.
~~~Pickle Soup~~~
Pickle soup
of consistency thick, it won't trickle soup.
Green-orange with flecks of pepperish corn
pour me some, please,
I savor the ease
of which it stands still upon my tongue.
Vegetable blend,
medley in jug,
crock of mongrel,
flavorsome sludge;
pickles with potatoes
pickles sole,
pickles and confectioned mushrooms with cream;
mustard seeds salted lightly,
buttered onions,
flour steamed,
made to simmer,
set aside so not thinner
than commonplace bilge,
hides in pantry
where we can't see
until ready to be served.
Oh, juicy pickle soup,
an elixir,
panacea, fixer,
cold in china white saucer, fish crackers atop:
I doubt I'll ever stop
lapping you up!
